Celebrating 27 Years of Giving Back: The Roy Yamaguchi Golf Classic at Hawaii Food and Wine Festival

For the past 27 years, the Roy Yamaguchi Golf Classic has been a beloved tradition on Maui at the Ka`anapali Golf Course, bringing together golf enthusiasts and foodies alike for a day of friendly competition and culinary delights. This annual golf tournament is not just about swinging clubs and sinking putts; it’s also a meaningful fundraiser that supports Imua Family Services, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping children and families in Maui County, especially those with disabilities, special needs and developmental delays.

The history of the Roy Yamaguchi Golf Classic is deeply intertwined with the legacy of Chef Roy Yamaguchi himself. A culinary icon known for his innovative fusion cuisine blending Hawaiian, Japanese, and European flavors, Chef Roy has always been passionate about giving back to his community. In 1994, he founded the golf tournament as a way to support Imua Family Services and make a positive impact on the lives of children with special needs.

Over the years, the Roy Yamaguchi Golf Classic has grown into a highly anticipated event, now a part of the Hawaii Food & Wine Festival attracting golfers from near and far who come together to enjoy a day on the greens while supporting a worthy cause. Participants not only get to showcase their golfing skills but also indulge in gourmet food and beverages prepared by Chef Roy and other renowned chefs participating in the Hawaii Food and Wine Festival.

Chef Roy Yamaguchi’s commitment to philanthropy and his dedication to supporting Imua Family Services have made the Roy Yamaguchi Golf Classic a standout event in the culinary and golfing communities. Through the years, the tournament has raised significant funds to help Imua Family Services provide essential programs and services to children and families facing developmental challenges.

As we celebrate the First Hawaiian Bank 27th Annual Roy Yamaguchi Golf Classic at the Hawaii Food and Wine Festival, we honor Chef Roy’s vision and generosity, and we look forward to another successful event that will make a difference in the lives of those in need. Cheers to golf, gourmet cuisine, and giving back!
